As fire activity has drastically decreased, so has the need for personnel and equipment. The ABQ Zone Incident Management Team will transition command of the fires back to the Cibola National Forest, Mount Taylor Ranger District, Type 4 organization tomorrow morning.

The public can still expect to see smoke put up by smoldering areas within the interior. Dozer and hand line repair will continue with expected completion by the end of today’s work shift.  After working diligently for days, crews have finally completed removing hazardous trees from within both of the fire perimeters.

Since wildland fires cause both immediate and long term damage to natural resources a Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) Team was called in.  The team will assess the damage done by the fires and recommend ways to stabilize the land.  BAER plans to address concerns about community water, supplies, water quality, fisheries and wildlife habitat, infrastructure, invasive plants, cultural resources, soil productivity, and threats to life and property.

The Temporary Flight Restriction that has been in place over the Bluewater and Diener Fires area, has been lifted.

This will be the last daily News Update for the Diener Canyon and Bluewater Fires.  For further information please contact the Mount Taylor Ranger District at (505) 287-8833 between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
