Temporary Area Closure for Fort Wingate Launch, Mount Taylor Ranger District

Albuquerque, NM, September 25, 2020 – A Temporary Area Closure Order (03-0699) has been issued within the Mt. Taylor Ranger District, Cibola National Forest, McKinley County, New Mexico. This Order will be effective on September 29th, 2020 at 6:00 PM, and shall remain in effect until October 3rd, 2020 at 4 PM, with back up-dates of October 4th, and October 7th, 2020 until rescinded, whichever occurs first. The launch is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, October 1st, 2020 between 6:30 and 8:30 a.m.

The purpose of this Order is to protect the public before and during the planned launch and pre-launch periods.

The Restricted Area is within Township 14N., Range 16W., Sections 1, 2, 3, 5-24, and 27-35; Township 13N., Range 16W., Sections 2-6; and Township 14N., Range 16W., Sections 7, 8, and 18, specifically all National Forest System lands within the boundary starting at the Forest Service gate on National Forest System Road (NFSR) 547 in Six Mile Canyon, then following NFSR 547 south for 4.6 miles to the intersection of the section lines of Sections 23, 24, 25, and 26, then following south along the section line between Sections 25 and 26, until the SE corner of Section 2, T13N., T16W., then following the section line west to the SW corner of Section 6, T13N., R16W. (excluding private inholdings), then following the Cibola National Forest boundary north, then east, back to the point of beginning, which is the Forest Service gate on NFSR 547 in Six Mile Canyon, as depicted in Exhibit A of this Order.

Any violation of this prohibition is punishable as a Class B misdemeanor by a fine of not more than $5,000 for individuals and $10,000 for organizations, or by imprisonment for not more than six (6) months, or both (see 16 U.S.C. § 551, 18 U.S.C. § 3571(b)(6), 18 U.S.C. § 3581 (b)(7)).
